New York City is banning public school students from grades 2 through 8 from using generative artificial intelligence, as part of a broader effort to restrict classroom technology in the nation’s largest school district.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a one-year AI classroom moratorium for about 600,000 public-school students from 2-K through eighth grade, starting in the 2026–2027 school year. Teachers will also be barred from using AI to grade work, while high school students face limited use and receive AI literacy classes.
Bidding closed Wednesday for the second phase of MTR Corporation’s Tuen Mun Area 16 Station property project.
