From Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, Chinese President Xi Jinping made his first state visit to Kyrgyzstan in seven years and attended the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek. Xi and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov signed a joint declaration on developing their comprehensive strategic partnership and a treaty on permanent good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation. At the summit, Xi urged the SCO to prioritize development and people, make security a key goal, and advance dialogue and consultation.
