Why High Yields on Government Bonds Are Causing Alarm
Government borrowing costs are rising worldwide as investors seek greater compensation for holding longer-term debt. Thirty-year Japanese government bond yields are close to a record at 4.19%, while equivalent UK yields are the highest since 1998. A Bloomberg measure of G7 government debt has reached its highest average yield since September 2000.
