Russia has begun the mass rollout of its digital ruble, with major banks and retailers opening infrastructure for transactions and individuals able to choose the new currency format. The system will expand in stages, with all credit institutions joining by September 2028. Individual payments and transfers are free, while businesses are exempt from fees through the end of this year.
