WorldUS, Israel to hold off on strikes against Iran
US President Donald Trump has stepped back from plans for major new strikes against Iran after weeks of threatening a forceful attack on Tehran. He said Washington would pause the strikes if a deal could be reached quickly. The announcement followed a call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who reportedly pressed for de-escalation amid fears of Iranian retaliation against Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states. Trump said Israel had joined the commitment, although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not commented. France 24’s Matthew-Mary Caruchet provides further analysis.
