TechLedger wallet implant exposes a gap in its authenticity check

Ledger confirmed an unauthorized hardware implant in a wallet owned by an affected customer after buyers reported crypto losses linked to devices from Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis, which has suspended sales. Independent investigators estimate suspected thefts at $93.2 million. Ledger has not established how many devices were modified or whether the implant caused all losses, and says it found no breach of its systems. Researchers say implants can capture recovery phrases and transmit them over cellular networks; Ledger’s Genuine Check does not detect physical tampering if the secure element remains intact.
