ScienceChinese scientists develop nuclear optical clock
A Tsinghua University team led by Ding Shiqian used a continuous-wave ultraviolet laser and a thorium-229 crystal to measure a transition inside an atomic nucleus and operate a nuclear optical clock. Its second-level stability was nearly an order of magnitude better than the European team’s, the researchers said. The findings were published online in Nature.
