ScienceChinese scientists develop a working nuclear optical clock
A Chinese team has built a working nuclear clock using a domestically developed 148-nanometer continuous-wave laser and thorium-229 trapped in calcium fluoride crystals. The research was published online in Nature. The team says possible uses include satellite navigation, deep-space exploration, precision surveying and synchronization of communications systems.
