SocietyFrance to close up to 500 schools as student protests set to resume
France plans to fully or partly close up to 500 high schools on Monday, with Education Minister Edouard Geffray citing unmet security conditions. Organisers have called for large demonstrations to resume on Tuesday, saying Emmanuel Macron’s government has offered no “concrete measures”. At least 170 students and 78 education workers have been injured since protests began in September, while 24 schools have been burned or ransacked.
