ScienceReport: Swiss glaciers lose more than 5% of ice after record heatwave
Swiss glaciers lost 5.5% of their ice volume in 2026, the second-largest annual loss on record, according to GLAMOS and the Swiss Commission for Cryosphere Observation. Record heat and a snow-poor winter accelerated melting, while the 2022-2026 melt rate was more than twice that of any previously monitored five-year period.
