More than 700 million people in China were using generative AI by mid-2026, with penetration above 50%, a CNNIC report said. Applications are spreading beyond chatbots and search into consumer electronics, productivity, manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare and research, while computing capacity and investment continue to expand.
