Hungary’s parliament voted 139-0 to lift Prime Minister Péter Magyar’s parliamentary immunity at prosecutors’ request, allowing authorities to investigate him on suspicion of theft. The case concerns a 2024 Budapest nightclub altercation in which Magyar allegedly took a patron’s phone and threw it into the Danube. Magyar called the case politically motivated and asked members of his Tisza party to support the motion.
