WorldLithuania’s parliament votes in first of three stages to lift ban on hosting nuclear weapons
Lithuania’s parliament voted 99–13, with five abstentions, to remove from the Constitution a ban on stationing nuclear weapons in the country. The amendment still needs two votes, on October 9 and January 12, with at least 94 of 141 lawmakers required each time. The move follows talks with the United States about possible nuclear deployments; the Kremlin has warned Lithuania would be “in the crosshairs” of Russian nuclear weapons.
