CultureAmateur archaeologist finds 934 Roman silver denarii in German field

Amateur archaeologist Oliver Riedl alerted authorities after his detector kept sounding near Wesseling, south of Cologne. Experts recovered 934 Roman silver denarii weighing 3.1kg, the largest hoard from Emperor Hadrian’s era found in Germany. Probably buried in the second century, it is now on display in Bonn.
