PoliticsEU fails to finalize Russia sanctions deal, ambassadors to reconvene hours before deadline

EU ambassadors failed to finalize an agreement late on Sept. 21 to renew sanctions on nearly 3,000 Russia-linked individuals and entities. Talks will resume at 8 a.m. Brussels time on Sept. 22, only hours before the measures expire. Latvia remained opposed to a compromise that would remove Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman from the list while extending restrictions on others for 36 months. Ukraine strongly rejected delisting either businessman.
