As Russian attacks on Ukraine’s rail infrastructure intensify, Kyiv is seeking international help to replace destroyed locomotives and preparing measures to protect passengers. More than 1,600 attacks on locomotives, stations and other rail facilities were reported in the first eight months of 2026, while Ukraine says over 500 locomotives have been damaged or destroyed since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.
