ScienceNew cat species identified in Bolivia for first time in more than a century

Researchers have formally identified Leopardus tilcayo, a previously unknown tiger-cat species found in Bolivia’s Yungas cloud forest. Genetic analysis found five distinct tiger-cat lineages. The animal is about 46cm long and weighs 1.4kg, while its biology remains largely unknown and its habitat faces deforestation, fires, farming and mining pressures.
