Dr Filippo Dionigi of the University of Bristol says Hezbollah’s disarmament is held back not simply by the Lebanese state’s military capacity, but by the lack of a political settlement that could make disarmament legitimate and sustainable. More funding and weapons for the Lebanese Armed Forces would not resolve that fundamental political dilemma.
