Evett, a two-Michelin-starred Seoul restaurant, was fined after using ants as dessert garnish in breach of South Korea’s Food Sanitation Act. Its owner was fined 15 million won and the operating company 10 million won. Tests also found excessive heavy metals in the ants; about 49,000 were used over nearly four years, mostly imported from the US and some from Thailand.
