Leaked state documents and interviews indicate that Iranian security forces coordinated the killing, torture and sexual abuse of hundreds involved in the September 2022 nationwide protests, Amnesty International says. The group verified 377 deaths, including 56 children, and documented 16 reported rape cases during arbitrary detention. It said years of impunity helped enable an even harsher crackdown in January 2026.
