University of Cambridge professor Ronita Bardhan says extreme heat is no longer only about climate exposure. Thermal safety also involves public health, energy security, urban design and inequality. In emergencies, protecting lives requires immediate access to shade, water, cooling centres, passive design or air conditioning, while adaptation and mitigation must advance together.
