Cambridge sustainable built environment and health professor Ronita Bardhan says extreme heat is no longer only about climate exposure. It also involves thermal safety, public health, energy security, urban design and inequality. In emergencies, she says, protecting life comes first, with immediate access to shade, hydration and cooling centres.
