CultureJapan enlists 1,800 people to pull 360-tonne castle keep
About 1,800 people used ropes to move the 360-tonne keep of Hirosaki Castle in Aomori prefecture 2.22 metres over the weekend. The structure was placed on rollers so a damaged wall could be repaired without dismantling the nationally designated cultural property. Hand-pulling will continue through August, with machinery expected to complete the remaining movement by year-end; reopening is projected for 2033.
