A collection of 688 handwritten messages by Mahatma Gandhi sold for $1.69m at an auction in Mumbai, a record price for an Indian historical document. Written to close aide Anand T Hingorani between 1944 and 1946, the notes discuss truth, non-violence and self-restraint while offering a personal view of Gandhi. The buyer was not identified, but the notes will remain in India.
