WorldBlast wounds two as de la Espriella cracks down on prisons
One day after Abelardo de la Espriella was sworn in as Colombia’s president, the country faced two bombing attacks. During his campaign, he promised a hard-line response to Colombia’s continuing violence and said on social media that there would be no leniency. The army said FARC dissidents used explosives to destroy a highway tollbooth near Cali. In a separate attack about 1,000 kilometres away in the northern department of Cesar, a police officer was killed. The attacks came as the new president moved against prisons.
