Nigerian police said on August 3 that judge Faruku Hassan Bunza had been freed after being abducted from his home in Bunza town. Unidentified gunmen took him on July 26. Kidnappings are routinely used by criminal groups in Nigeria to demand lucrative ransom payments from the government or victims’ families. The circumstances of Bunza’s release were not immediately known, while the attackers remained at large.
