PoliticsInternational Criminal Court wins EU’s Sakharov Prize

The EU named the International Criminal Court this year’s Sakharov Prize winner. The award recognizes individuals and organizations for supporting and protecting human rights and democracy, and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola announced the decision. The court has recently faced US sanctions following its arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over alleged war crimes in Gaza. The award adds to expressions of support after former ICC judge Navi Pillay received the Nobel Peace Prize. Metsola also recognized the other finalists: Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu and Iranian twin sisters Taraneh and Romina Rahimi.
