WorldJapan-US Keen Sword exercise poses security risks to Russia, MFA says

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the joint Japan-US Keen Sword exercise poses security risks to Russia’s Far Eastern borders. She said the activity has lost the strictly defensive character previously defined in Japanese law amid Japan’s move toward remilitarization, adding that Moscow has repeatedly raised serious concerns with Tokyo. The exercise runs in Japan and surrounding waters from October 19 to 29, involving about 45,000 Japanese personnel and 12,000 US troops.
