SportsSpain punished by FIFA over Islamophobic chants during Egypt friendly

FIFA fined Spain’s football federation $20,000 and ordered at least 15 percent of available seats closed for the team’s next friendly after fans twice chanted an Islamophobic slogan during March’s match against Egypt at the RCDE Stadium near Barcelona. FIFA said the chant was discriminatory even without an explicit slur.
