SocietyUp to 500 French schools to close Monday as protests continue

Up to 500 French high schools are set to begin a second week of full or partial closures on Monday amid protests over run-down schools and classrooms, overcrowding and teacher shortages. A high school in Aubervilliers was relatively calm early Monday, as students sought to revive last week’s protest momentum after a weekend lull. A nationwide demonstration is planned for Tuesday.
