CultureAncient Roman pottery found in shipwreck off Sicily

Italy’s Carabinieri cultural protection unit has located the wreck of a Roman ship off the coast of Sicily. Divers discovered hundreds of amphorae and sections of anchors inside the vessel. The wreck lies roughly three miles from Mazara del Vallo. Sicily was an important trading centre in the ancient world, after Greek colonisation and the later Roman conquest.
