WorldSpain-Italy migration dispute intensifies

The European Union says the reciprocal border restrictions introduced by Spain and Italy are temporary and will not have a lasting effect on the Schengen area. Spain began checking travellers arriving from Italy after Rome imposed similar controls following a surge of migrants into Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta. Madrid says most of the migrants were quickly returned. It has accused Italy of permitting what it calls “persistent irregular migration.”
