ScienceSpaceX rocket strikes the Moon, prompting a NASA investigation

An out-of-control SpaceX rocket has reportedly crashed into the Moon, creating a new crater near a well-known lunar landmark. On Wednesday, August 5, an empty upper stage of a Falcon 9 hit an area near the Einstein crater at about 8,700 kilometres per hour. The impact produced a brief, intense flash. Major observatories in the Americas are analysing the data, while scientists say the collision offers an unusual opportunity to study planetary geology and inform future missions.
