EconomyEurope injects 50 bcm of gas into storage for winter as stockpiling slows
Since the summer injection season began in April 2026, EU countries have added a net 50 billion cubic meters of gas to underground storage, meeting only 74% of the volume needed for winter. Storage was 73.94% full on October 12, the lowest level for that date since records began in 2011. EU rules set a 90% filling target, though the European Commission may lower it to 80% this year amid expectations of a very mild winter.
