WorldPope Leo XIV admitted to hospital for lung surgery

Pope Leo XIV has been admitted to Rome’s Gemelli hospital for an operation to remove a small lung nodule found during recent medical checks. The 71-year-old pope said it was detected early. It is his first hospitalisation since becoming pope in May 2025.
