China has expressed condolences over the death of Australian sinologist and Chinese Government Friendship Award recipient Colin Mackerras, who died aged 87 in Brisbane on the evening of Oct. 8 local time after an illness. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said he had long worked to foster Australia-China friendship and mutual understanding.
