WorldSouth Africa deputy police chief resigns amid sex offence charges
Shadrack Sibiya resigned as South Africa’s deputy police chief after lawyers submitted his resignation at the start of a disciplinary hearing. A spokesperson said his departure was treated as a “dishonourable discharge” because the case was ongoing. Sibiya, who denies corruption, rape and child-grooming allegations, is in prison after being arrested last month; his bail application was postponed to October 13. He has also denied allegations before a judicial commission that he received cash and gifts from alleged criminals.
