TechChina bets on molten salt and CO2 to meet power needs

China has begun constructing the Ruitan project at a coal-fired power station in Yantai, Shandong. It is billed as the world’s first utility-scale plant to combine supercritical CO2 generation with large-scale molten salt storage, testing whether the technologies can reduce energy waste and stabilize the grid. Electricity generated when demand is low will be stored.
