TechVurt wants vertical video to be seen as its own genre

As major streaming services explore vertical content, startup Vurt is betting that vertical entertainment can find an audience on widescreen TVs. Its new Apple TV and Android TV apps offer 3,500 episodes across more than 100 shows; Vurt says its user base has risen from 10,000 at its March launch to 675,000. Most of its dramas use human casts and crews, and viewers can watch for free through ad partnerships.
