ScienceChinese scientists map rice cells across the crop’s full lifecycle
A Chinese research consortium created the first 3D spatiotemporal cell atlas tracking rice from seed germination through flowering and grain filling. It covers 10 organ and tissue types across 61 developmental stages and identifies 119 cell types and 133 subtypes. The team also developed a rice single-cell foundation model to support gene research and precision breeding.
