CultureJiajin: The Snow Mountain Challenge

In June 1935, the Central Red Army crossed Mount Jiajin to evade pursuing forces and join the Fourth Front Army. The 4,114-meter mountain was their first major snow mountain on the Long March. Exhausted and short of supplies, troops in thin clothes and straw sandals—some barefoot—took six days to cross it. More than 20 peaks above 4,000 meters lay ahead.
