ScienceNeanderthal wooden tools from Spain found preserved in stone
Mineral-rich water at Abric Romaní, a rock shelter west of Barcelona, coated wooden tools in a limestone-like crust. As the wood decayed, it left hollow molds preserving the tools’ shapes. Spanish archaeologists cataloged 597 remains from Neanderthal living areas dated to 62,000–40,000 years ago, including spears, digging sticks, bark trays, shelter parts, and an unprecedented club.
