Smoke from Indonesian forest fires has pushed air pollution to unhealthy levels in Malaysia, prompting school closures in Kuala Lumpur and several states and affecting about two million students. Singapore’s air quality also fell into the “very unhealthy” range. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he had spoken with Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto and was seeking an urgent meeting of ASEAN environment ministers.
