TechAmazon is phasing out Fire tablets in favor of Alexa tablets

Amazon consumer electronics chief Panos Panay confirmed in a Bloomberg interview that the company will phase out the Fire brand and replace it with Alexa tablets. The new lineup will run full Android and have Play Store access. Amazon will continue security updates for Fire tablets but make no hardware refreshes; Panay said more hardware announcements are coming this fall, but not an Amazon-branded computer or laptop.
