WorldResidents airlifted to safety after flooding in central Chile
Heavy rain caused the Mapocho River to burst its banks, flooding large parts of Talagante in central Chile. Police used helicopters to rescue residents and pets trapped in their homes. Santiago recorded 74mm of rain in the first seven days of the month, its wettest October start in 76 years. Officials said one person was found dead in a flooded underpass in San Bernardo, with the cause not yet confirmed.
