EconomyEU unveils measures to curb high energy costs

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said European gas prices had risen 140% since the end of February and diesel prices had doubled, adding about 100 billion euros to Europe’s energy bill. The EU plans talks with refineries, joint purchasing measures and extended temporary state aid for exposed industries. Von der Leyen also called for more domestic clean energy and faster electrification to reduce reliance on imported energy.
