EconomyS&P brings ratings-style scrutiny to $10 billion crypto vault market after $6 million Base incident

S&P Global has launched a Vault Risk Assessment framework to standardize comparisons of impairment risk in crypto lending vaults, whose deposits reached about $10 billion in September. On the same day, CertiK flagged roughly $6 million in suspicious movements involving an unnamed vault on Base. The incident did not exploit Aave itself but highlighted risks from vault contracts, permissions and managers. S&P’s assessments are forward-looking risk opinions, not credit ratings or guarantees of repayment.
