ScienceSolar power transforms lives in remote Amazon communities
Solar panels are improving life in remote Amazon communities as El Niño threatens to intensify drought. In Nova Sociedade, deep inside a protected area of Brazil’s Amazon rainforest, solar power supplies clean water and enough electricity for the daily needs of 36 families. The community once depended on costly, polluting and unreliable diesel generators. Similar systems have been installed in 29 other communities, also powering schools, health centers and local businesses.
