ScienceAtlantic storm season may finally produce a hurricane
A low-pressure system in the western Gulf of Mexico is expected to become a tropical storm soon, and current forecast models give it a reasonable chance of strengthening into a hurricane. An early-October hurricane would normally be unremarkable, but this year it would be notable because none has formed yet. No Atlantic season in the modern record has gone without a hurricane or waited this long for one to develop.
