TechOpenAI will watermark ChatGPT outputs by default—but only in the EU
OpenAI says it will automatically watermark ChatGPT-generated text in the European Union to comply with the EU AI Act. The feature will be available elsewhere but disabled by default. Its proprietary textGrain system embeds detectable word-choice patterns without significantly changing output quality, though people with basic technical knowledge may be able to circumvent it.
